Seminar on Bilateral Trade Promotion for Vietnamese Exporters and Importers with Canadian Counterparts



On August 8, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Trade Promotion and Investment (ITPC), in partnership with ATIM Consulting Joint Stock Company - a CanCham member, hosted a seminar focused on enhancing bilateral trade between Vietnam and Canada.


Ms. Lan Phan, Executive Director of CanCham Vietnam, joined this insightful seminar. The event featured distinguished speakers, including Mr. Nathan Nelson from Export Development Canada (EDC), a national corporate sponsor of CanCham. Additional speakers included CanCham members such as Mr. Zach Herbers from The Herbers Agency and Mr. Vince Tran from Canadian Wood Vietnam. There are other notable sponsors and members of CanCham also attended such as CN and Secoin, who contributed to a valuable discussion on strengthening trade relations between Vietnam and Canada.



According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, trade turnover between the two countries reached over US$3.41 billion in the first half of 2024, with Vietnamese exports to Canada totaling US$3 billion.The main exports include textiles, machinery, equipment, wood and wood products, seafood and cashew nuts while Vietnam imports mainly wheat and soybean from Canada. Canada is also the 14th largest investor in Vietnam with more than 247 projects, with a total registered capital of more than 4.82 billion USD.


To promote bilateral trade cooperation between the two countries, ITPC regularly supports Vietnamese enterprises to connect with Canadian buyers and importers, Lu said. It also proposes solutions to promote trade for key export sectors such as agricultural products, food - beverages, wooden furniture - interior, household appliances, handicrafts, and logistics services.



Additionally, experts at the seminar advised Vietnam businesses to consider partnering with Canadian companies and e-commerce platforms to increase their presence and save costs
