Childhood cancer is a family disease that profoundly affects the lives of both the patient and their family. Most cancer treatments involve prolonged hospital stays, painful procedures, and harsh side effects, which disrupt a child’s development and social life, leading to a decline in their quality of life. This often results in depression, anxiety, and challenges in disease management and treatment compliance. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes pediatric palliative care, including psychological support, as a core component of comprehensive care for every child with cancer and their family, starting at the time of diagnosis and continuing throughout the course of treatment. The Can-Clover program, in addition to providing medical support for underprivileged children with cancer, focuses on psychosocial care through periodic workshops that incorporate creative art therapy and music-based interventions. These activities help alleviate pain and anxiety, bring joy to young patients, and foster optimism, ultimately improving their emotional well-being and providing valuable relief during the challenges of their treatment.
To celebrate the courage of young warriors on International Childhood Cancer Day, VinaCapital Foundation's Can-Clover program have partnered with music experts to create the "Loving Melody" workshops at two major hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City: City Children's Hospital and Children's Hospital 2. These workshops aim to use music as a companion to ease pain and anxiety, lift spirits, sharpen focus, and even spark creativity. During the first sessions, we welcomed around 30 "young musicians". These brave children explored the vibrant world of music, participating in multi-sensory exercises, singing beloved children's songs, and playing simple instruments with the guidance of music professionals.
Building on the success of this pilot initiative, we will organize monthly psychosocial care sessions at both hospitals, ensuring continuous support for the children. This ongoing effort will be an important step in providing psychosocial support for the children and their families during their journey battling with cancer.
