On Wednesday, November 24th 2021, CanCham was honoured to be part of the webinar Dialogue with Customs HCMC related to CPTPP initiated by the Consulate General of Canada to Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City.
As Vietnam enters the 3rd year of implementation of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in 2021, Vietnamese importers have been able to benefit from tariff reductions and elimination to a large extent, thus increasing demand for Canadian products that have become more competitive in this market. However, local customs regulations with regards to Certification of Origin, tariff refund, import of product samples, and customs clearance, particularly during the prolonged lockdown period in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), continue to pose challenges for both Canadian exporters and Vietnamese importers. This event was a rare opportunity for traders to ask questions directly to HCMC Customs, for which it would normally take several weeks or months to get an answer.
