As the Covid-19 pandemic continues its devastating legacy, many children have lost their parent/s and are living in extremely challenging circumstances. According to statistics of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, up to November 2021, in the city only, the 4th wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has caused 2,324 children to lose either one of their parents or both of their parents and caregivers. The number of orphans will continue to increase because of the ongoing impact of the virus in Vietnam.

Along with financial and educational difficulties, the loss of loved ones has left behind severe psychological trauma for many orphans. This vulnerable group faces hardship in every category of need, including physical health, mental health, nutrition and formal education.

In order to support disadvantaged children affected by Covid-19 to stabilize their lives, ensure their rights as prescribed by law, and narrow the gap in living standards between Covid-19 orphans and other children, on the afternoon of November 25, 2021, VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) in collaboration with the Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City (YU of HCMC) organized an MOU Signing Ceremony to implemented the Care to Rise program. The Care to Rise program’s purpose is to provide for, protect and encourage these orphans until adulthood through scientific individual assessment, short-term and mid-term remedies and long-term pathways for health and success.
