On July 21, CanCham was pleased to join the briefing “Powering Asia’s Uncertain Future: Where Canada Realistically Fits” presented by Barrett Bingley, Asia Regional Director at the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada.
Representing CanCham were David Mallette (Consul and Senior Trade Commissioner for Vietnam at the Consulate General of Canada), Laurence Newman (Executive Director), alongside members of our Board of Directors – Tom Ha (VinaCapital Fund Management), Jack Nguyen (InCorp Vietnam), Bich Pham (Chứng khoán HSC), and Sarah Galeski (Tilleke & Gibbins) – as well as representatives of our member community, Lay Hoon Tan (Sun Life Việt Nam), Linh Truong and Nick Tran (Export Development Canada – Exportation et développement Canada), and Tuyet Anh Trinh (Grant Thornton Vietnam).
The session explored how Asia’s evolving energy landscape is creating both challenges and opportunities, and where Canada can play a meaningful role. From oil, LNG, and LPG exports to nuclear energy, critical minerals, and renewable technologies, Canada is increasingly positioning itself as a diversified energy partner for the region. At the same time, infrastructure constraints, environmental considerations, and geopolitical shifts continue to influence this journey. It was also an insightful discussion on Canada’s potential to contribute to Asia’s growing energy needs while navigating an increasingly complex global landscape.
