On April 16, witnessed by Prime Minister Mark Carney and other invited guests, a virtual memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony took place between the 21 participating Chambers and Business Associations into forming a network called the Canadian Chambers of the Indo Pacific (CCIP).

“Now more than ever, with global trade changes and uncertainty, Canada’s businesses of all sizes need a champion like the CCIP. This regional partnership reflects the first time Canadian business organizations that have banded together outside Canada for a more coordinated presence in the Indo-Pacific for new business and trade opportunities. It’s a strategic move that will help us build resilient trade relationships and unlock new opportunities for growth” – His Excellency, Canada’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Singapore, Paul Thoppil, Former Canadian Indo Pacific Trade Representative
Commenting on the MOU signing, Zach Herbers, President of CanCham Vietnam, said:
“This MOU is testament to the strategic importance of the Indo-Pacific region to Canada and Canadian business. Vietnam is Canada’s largest trade partner in ASEAN. And as a member of CCIP, CanCham Vietnam aims to give an even stronger voice to our members. Through this initiative, we hope to help our members build even stronger trade relationships and open the door to new growth opportunities in bilateral trade.”
The MoU brings together the Canadian business communities from key Indo-Pacific markets, spanning from the Indian Subcontinent to Japan and across ASEAN to amplify the voice of Canadian business in Asia, catalyzed in partnership with the Canadian federal government, provincial governments, and both the Canadian and Indo-Pacific business communities.

CCIP, as a network consisting of 21 independent Chambers of Commerce coming together, representing Canadian and Asian companies, representing businesses that employ thousands of people and invest in the region, abide under this MoU for
