Moderator: Consul General Kyle Nunas
Kyle Nunas (BJ High Hons, Carleton University, 1994) joined Canadian Heritage in 1994. He served in a variety of functions, including managing communications for sport, and international and intergovernmental affairs. In 2006, he joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. He served as director of the Communications Services Division from 2007 to 2012, leading the marketing program of the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service. From 2014 to 2017, he served as director for aerospace, automotive, defence, and information and communications technology in the Trade Sectors Bureau. Overseas, he served as Canada’s first consul and senior trade commissioner in Bengaluru (Bangalore) from 2012 to 2014.
Don Lam, a founding partner of VinaCapital, has worked in Vietnam for more than two decades. He has overseen VinaCapital’s growth from manager of a single USD10 million fund in 2003 into a leading investment management and real estate development firm in Southeast Asia. Additionally, Mr Lam established the VinaCapital Foundation whose mission is to empower the children and youth of Vietnam by providing opportunities for growth through health and education projects. He also serves as Vice-Chairman, Global Agenda Council on ASEAN for the World Economic Forum. Before founding VinaCapital, Mr Lam was a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers (Vietnam), where he led the corporate finance and management consulting practices throughout the Indochina region. He earned a degree in Commerce and Political Science from the University of Toronto and is the recipient of an honorary doctorate in business from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Mr Lam is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Canada. He is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a securities license in Vietnam.”
Fred Burke is the Managing Partner of Baker McKenzie in Vietnam. Recognized as one of Vietnam’s most prominent lawyers, Fred has more than 30 years experience practicing in the areas of alternative energy, real property development, international trade, energy and infrastructure, M&A, foreign investment and dispute resolution. Fred is consistently ranked as a Leading Lawyer in Corporate/M&A by all major legal publications in Vietnam (Legal 500 AP 2018-2007; Chambers and Partners AP 2018-2012; IFLR1000 2018-2010) and he has been ranked by Chambers Global as a leading lawyer in both Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions and International Trade for many successive years. Fred is currently a member of the Ministry of Justice’s Advisory Council on Administrative Reform in Vietnam and he has extensive experience working with Vietnamese legislators and law drafting committees on the full palette of new laws and decrees integrating Vietnam into the global economy.
Ralf has worked and lived in Vietnam for over 22 years, all in market research. After 20 years of Corporate life, Ralf established Infocus Mekong Research, Vietnam’s first dedicated smartphone based research agency. In 1996, Ralf established TNS Vietnam, followed up by Kantar Media & Worldpanel, TNS Cambodia & Myanmar, becoming the biggest Agency in the region. In 2013 he was promoted to Regional Managing Director – Mekong Region: Cambodia | Laos | Malaysia | Myanmar | Thailand | Vietnam. Ralf holds an honours degree from Wilfred Laurier University, Canada. Prior to coming to Vietnam in 1994, Ralf served as a policy analyst for the Provincial Minister of Finance for Ontario, Canada. Ralf has served in various capacities on the Cancham Board for almost 10 years, most recently as President.
Fiachra Mac Cana
Mr. Fiachra Mac Cana joined HSC on Monday, March 3rd 2008 in the position of Managing Director – Head of Research Department. Starting as a graduate with the Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) in Dublin, Mr. Mac Cana has spent his life in the brokerage business. He has 31 years of experience in the industry starting in London and then Tokyo. Before coming to Vietnam, Mr. Mac Cana was the Head of Research for Japanese Equities with WestLB for 6 years, from 1997 to 2003 and also the founder of JCN Network, a leader in Japanese corporate news. In 2003, according to Asia Money, he was in the top 15 Japanese strategists. Mr. Mac Cana has been in Vietnam for 14 years, where he started off by leading Vina Capital’s Research Department in Ho Chi Minh city, and later as Managing Director – Head of Brokerage with Vina Securities.
Joining the industry in London in 1996, Stephen has over 20 years’ experience with various international real estate consultancies. He has broad and diverse experience in managing businesses, investment transactions, leasing and development consultancy covering three continents, Europe, Africa and Asia. Stephen worked in London for 11 years from 1996 to 2007 with Cushman & Wakefield and Knight Frank. In 2004, Stephen was promoted to Partner with Knight Frank. In 2007, Stephen moved to manage the Knight Frank business in Botswana, Africa. In June 2010 – August 2013, he was appointed as Managing Director of Knight Frank, Vietnam. Stephen joined Jones Lang LaSalle Vietnam in September 2013 as the Country Head and is responsible for overall operations of the Company.
