B+H VIETNAM HOSTS STRATEGIC DISCUSSION FOCUSED ON SUSTAINABLE AND RESILIENT BUILT ENVIRONMENTS

On Thursday, 28 November, B+H Architects Vietnam launched their inaugural networking series named “B+H Disruptors Night”. This series aims to gather like-minded industry partners and developers to have conversations on current trends and innovations globally that may disrupt the way people do business in the future. In the first Disruptors Night, Lisa Bate, Global Sustainability Lead of B+H and Chair of the World Green Building Council, shared her insights about how buildings and the construction industry could work differently to reduce their contribution to global warming, health crises, and pollution.

B+H Principal and World Green Building Council Chair, Lisa Bate, shares her international perspective at exclusive forum

Lisa emphasized the WorldGBC’s Better Places For People project that links buildings to the people that occupy them, accelerating a sustainable built environment by proving and supporting co-benefits for people, particularly related to health and wellbeing. For Vietnam, the country with a rich river and coastal system, it has been projected that southern Vietnam will be submerged by 2050 so all new development must be planned and built with sustainable and resilient (S&R) features. Lisa and Rob Marshall, Global Director of B+H Planning and Landscape, shared B+H’s S&R planning principles focusing on a variety of water management strategies. These included strategies such as engineering development sites to flood resilient elevations; maintaining wetland areas, estuaries and waterfronts with their riparian edge conditions critical for their absorptive and biodiversity properties; and using landscape design, open spaces and internal bio-swales as sustainable stormwater management systems for new development areas.

The exclusive event was honored to welcome HE. Kyle Nunas, Consul General of Canada in HCMC, and distinguished guests including real estate developers, consultants, contractors, and engineers in Vietnam./.
